Students from St. Paul, Damien, Bosco Tech and Ramona Convent High Schools walked from Salazar Park in East LA to the ocean last Sunday to raise money for the LACW. Thanks to all the students, teachers and parents for their time and effort!
Allison and Margaret from the LACW joined 25,000 other people last week for the 18th annual School of the Americas protest at Fort Benning Georgia. Click here for pictures of the event. For more information visit SOA Watch at soaw.org.
Catholic Workers Jeff Dietrich and Ed Pilolla, regular kitchen volunteer Dick Hieser and five other determined people blocked the doors of the Pasadena City College Military Recruitment Center for five hours last Friday. The eight risking arrest and the crowd of supporters spent the time holding signs for the passing traffic and talking to the young recruits. Though there was a large police presence no one was arrested. After five hours the marines who were in charge gave up and closed for the day. Click here for pictures of the action

The LAPD and the Mayor have recently been celebrating the supposed success of the “Safer Cities Initiative” on Skid Row. Gary Blasi, a professor at the UCLA School of Law and a 30 year veteran of Skid Row Issues has published a report called Policing Our Way Out of Homelessness? which refutes nearly all of their claims.

We had our annual Sister House Retreat last weekend at Casa De Maria in Santa Barbara. Liz McAlister from Jonah house came out to give a workshop and lead us in prayer. In spite of the heavy rain, (or maybe because of it) a good time was had by all. Click here for photos.
